Developments.
As my project develops and adapts, I’ve made some adjustments to the form that it takes. I now see my Niche as:
The creation and moderation of minecraft based discord servers that integrate the two worlds
My Niche
As I observe “how the audience within discord interacts with content and the platform”. This self sustaining loop creates autoe-ethnographic research as I study the engagement around me while I too participate.
As I began this process, I began to also notice some fascinating epiphanies form:
- Users will compare servers and have their own perspective of what is “right” and “wrong” and will have expectations about the process of moderation and creation.
- Activity creates more activity.
- People love change, so long as it doesn’t change everything.
You can hear more about my thoughts on these epiphanies as I discuss them here:
Action in light of these ideas.
After reflecting on these epiphanies I came up with three ways to iterate.
- Welcome suggestions, but I make the call with a bigger picture in mind. Make sure this is clear but generous.
- Work with moderators to create daily content to help create the content buzz. New topics, Memes, chatting with gamers and new faces, and work toward events that players can get excited for.
- Changing channels and creating new things spikes interest. Daily Questions, updates with games like Parkour, links to clips from our stream, etc etc.
I really hope these changes will push my project more towards the busy buzz I’m aiming for this semester. There’s been a great community push to grow the server and I hope that energy will continue!
