Medium = Message

This past week in Emergent Media we broke down “Media” into its very essence. This was a very difficult concept to grasp, as was clear by the universal look of confusion throughout our lecture.

It took a while to grasp the greatness of the statement “The Medium is the Message” until we unpacked some details.

After discovering that media is “anything that conveys information” and a medium is “something in the middle”, things began to be pieced together.

The most useful part of this weeks lecture was its parallel with the content in our other subjects this week. This was super helpful, as it gave us a better grasp and plenty of practice in understanding the depth of media.

We concluded by discussing how everything sends a message. This means that every medium is already sending a message, and that everything is constantly conveying information. Naturally, just like the meme below this blew our minds.

Ted, I am not sure if we can handle much more content like this?

This meme was created out of the pure abundance of confusion Ted served each of us on a silver platter this week. Its classic style and generic taste encapulates the universalness of confusion in trying to grasp the topic.

    Good post mate, keep it up. Don’t worry about being confused, I am sure everyone inside the lecture was confused, apart from Ted of course. Also love the meme!
